Syracuse, N.Y. – Three 16-year-olds were arraigned Tuesday on murder charges that they killed their friend when they were trying to shoot a pedestrian, a prosecutor said.
Torrin Brown, 16; Quinntone Moore, 16; and Uzziah Murray, 16; are accused of fatally shooting Deron McGee Jr., 15, around 11 p.m. Aug. 12, according to an indictment filed in Onondaga County Court.
McGee was riding with the three 16-year-olds in a stolen Hyundai Sonata that night, according to the indictment.
On Tuesday, Prosecutor Rob Moran confirmed McGee was friends with Brown, Moore and Murray.
The group was in the stolen Sonata near the Parkside Commons apartment complex when they fired multiple guns at a pedestrian, according to the indictment. Instead, they hit McGee, prosecutors have said.
Brown, Moore and Murray are charged with second-degree murder, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
McGee was in critical condition for days before he was declared brain dead. He was a Corcoran High School student who loved motorcycles and classic cars, his family said.
